Why BFCH?
Baan Farm Children's Home (BFCH) is home to over 80 boys and girls from very poor Hill Tribe and Thai families. These families want the best opportunities for their children. They see education as a way to escape the poverty they are living out today.
Many of the villages where these families live do not have schools or only have elementary schools - grades 1 through 6. Christian Paisansat School, located on the same property as Baan Farm Children's Home is both an elementary and middle school, teaching students from the 1st to 9th grades.
Christian Paisansat School has long been recognized as a place that takes seriously the task of educating their students. Likewise Baan Farm Children's Home is known as a place that takes great pains to care for and love the children entrusted to its care.
Value and Cost
It costs 12,000 Thai baht (about $360 US) per year per child to stay at BFCH. Families are required to pay 6,500 baht (about $200 US), but many of them are not able. The remaining funds needed for each child are covered by gifts to the dormitory and sponsorship. If a sponsor is found for a child, parents must pay a minimum amount of 2,000 baht (about $60 US) for the child for that year.
This costs cover room and board in the dormitory as well as regular loving supervision by members of the dormitory staff (see the Staff page). Each child participates in a time of worship and devotions each evening. On Wednesdays, children are encouraged to participate in a Bible study. On Fridays, special evangelistic outreach programs are presented and Sunday mornings we have Sunday School classes for all students. Additionally on Saturdays, we often have special activities or sporting events.
Sponsorship Process
If a family cannot pay the required 6,500 baht, we invite them to fill out a sponsorship application. This application is the first step for the policies we have for these parents to apply for sponsorship for their children. We evaluate their applications, visit their villages doing background checks and then if approved add the child to our sponsor list. Each child is prioritized based on the financial need of the family plus the efforts put forth by the child. The children are encouraged to study and maintain good grades to remain eligible for sponsorship.
